Started his career in the early 90’s in the South African Police Services. A qualified Detective Inspector he was attached to the South African Narcotics Bureau and progressed to special investigations in the SAPS Organized Crime Division. He is a competent investigator with years of investigative experience.
In 1997 he started his career in the first legalized casino in South Africa. Employed as a surveillance specialist his role was in the CCTV surveillance operations which not only ensured compliance with gaming operations but internal compliance through various internal gaming areas which included slots, tables, cash desk and count room operations.
Having gained this experience, he went on to join the KwaZulu-Natal Gambling Board in 2001. As a regulator he was responsible for ensuring legislative compliance by gambling operators in terms of the Gambling Act. He was part of numerous teams that opened casino and limited payout machine operations. These operations are evident as you see the current gambling spectrum in the KZN Province. He served as committee member on National Committees for gambling technical compliance and law enforcement. His functions were not limited to operations and compliance but included gambling tax validation, adherence to licence conditions, dealing with patron disputes, gaming system integrity validations and cortication of new gambling equipment.
He has played a pivotal role in the amendments to gambling legislation in KwaZulu-Natal specifically updates to the KZN Gaming Rules and Regulations as well as the current KZN Gambling Tax Amendment Act.
In 2012 he was promoted to the position of Senior Manager for the Gaming, Compliance and Betting Units at the Board. Here he managed multiple facets including strategic planning, audit and risk, operation performance and served as operations advisor to the Board. He has attended numerous international gambling expos and conferences and represented the Board in Las Vegas, Spain, Berlin, Macau, Germany and London. He has also been presenter and guest speaker at various National Gambling and Operator conferences in South Africa.
In 2020 he assumed the position of Senior Manager – Business Development Unit. This was the first unit of its kind within the regulatory environment in South Africa. The purpose of the unit was to drive economic development and transformation within the gambling industry landscape. By identifying the needs of existing licensed operators, the unit sought to create value chain opportunities for manufacturers and develop SMMES so that they could participate in the industry. Numerous projects were highly successful, and this work continues until today with major plans for economic participation.
As part of his role, he implemented the activation of the KZN Gaming and Betting Transformation fund, having developed policies, terms of refence this programme was rolled out in 2020.
In 2024 the Board merged with the erstwhile KZN Liquor Authority. Adapting to his new role he has gained invaluable experience in the liquor licensing and compliance field.
In 2026 he retired from the KZN Economic Regulator to start a new business chapter. His company is registered and will be known as RSG Professional Gambling and Liquor Consulting
